Afternoon, squeezing in a game of Zelda?

Giant Realm - Stuff Guys Need

So I Guess We're Doing This Again?

  • I have a real hard time being critical of anything that perpetuates the things I love, especially in regards to Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne. However, in one lifetime I have had to bear witness to five incarnations of the Dark Night and two Web Slingers.  Now, I’m not saying that’s all bad. These characters mean far more in the annals of pop culture and will always be bigger than the actors that play them.

I for one am looking forward to see how Edwardo Saverin fares as Spidey. And putting in Gwen Stacey as his first relationship—I love the continuity with Stan Lee’s original story line. In many ways I will always prefer Michael Keaton’s raised eyebrow Batman to the graveled mumbles of Christian Bale. But the Nolan reboots are great, and Bale’s darker portrayal takes me back to when Azriel was standing in for a back-broken Bruce Wayne.

Comic books are currently providing the inspiration for a Hollywood struggling for new ideas (Total Recall is this, not this!). Check out a great Comic book property, like Giant Realm’s Comic Book Resources, and you will inevitably find the source material for Hollywood’s next blockbuster. These modern day mythologies provide a perfectly abundant well for the big production houses to use. Just because a blind lawyer, a ring-bearing leprechaun, Marvel’s favorite vigilante, and too many attempts to make a Hulk ‘Smash’ register at the box office didn’t work out doesn’t mean George Clooney should be Batman or we need to watch Uncle Ben die again!

According to comScore, the Giant Realm audience is 1.3x more likely than average web users to attend a movie during opening weekend. Hollywood knows how much we love our superheroes and we are at their whim to sit through slight variations of the same stories with different faces.

Enough is enough! It’s time to introduce weary movie goers and yearning fan-boys to the vast universe comics have created. I truly believe a stint by George Clooney as Dr. Strange would help erase the memory of the Caped Crusader in an anatomically exaggerated Bat Suit… but not by all that much.
