Virtual Suicide Device
Only in Russia ...

Apparently too many people in the world want to experience the phenomenal excitement of sticking a metal fork in an electrical socket without the risk of electrocuting themselves. I couldn’t possibly think of any other answer for the creation of this gadget. For a while, despite my hesitance of believing that such a device existed, I thought this was a real tool for committing suicide. Is this the new way for tech-savvy folks to do the deed? There couldn’t possibly be a company that could get away with producing these, right? And of course, it was too ridiculous to be true.

Very little information is available for the mechanism, but you can read a rough translation of the Russian product page for the “Vilkus” here.
In the words of the creators (edited a bit for easier understanding):
“Many people get pleasure from direct contact with electric utilities. Usually used for these purposes are pieces of un-insulated wires, paper clips or even conventional metal dining forks. All these devices are unreliable, short and, last but not least, can cause short-circuiting, or ignition of the wiring.”
... In other words, you die.

The characteristics of these sockets are described as having “openings comfortable [enough] even for large phalanges, and are at a comfortable distance from each other.” The website also states, “’Vilkus’ itself does not consume electricity, so it can keep connected to the outlet until the next session.” Awesome! That way, when your friends stop by and question you about what is plugged into the wall, you can respond with, “Oh that’s just my suicide simulation device; it's green, too!” The fact that the makers describe the act of using the gadget as a “session” creeps me out, too. “Go away! I’m having some me-time!” No matter how many weird fetishes I come across, there will always be another one that makes me think “WTF??”
