World of Warcraft Toppled?

Habbo Hotel expects to break the 10 million subscriber mark.

We all know that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures or maybe the forthcoming Warhammer MMOG won't even get close to touching World of Warcraft's massive success, but it turns out Blizzard's biggest competition, at least when it comes to sheer numbers, will come from the casual side.

Wagner James Au reports that Sulake Corps' social MMOG Habbo Hotel is expected to hit the 10 million subscriber mark within the next 30 days. Blizzard hasn't released and official numbers in a while, so World of Warcraft might not lose its top spot quite yet. And with Wrath of the Lich King coming, the game should get another boost, as well. But regardless, with Habbo Hotel doing so well, the days of calling World of Warcraft the anomaly are over.

I for one welcome our new, ultra-casual overlords.

I didn't realise there was 10 million 12 year olds in the globe, nevermind playing Habbo!

Still, since they franchised and regionalised each country with their own version of the Hotel, Sulake have gained huge success. They saw the market, and played it for the fools their audience are, and who can blame them?
